There are so many benefits to instilling kindness in children -- improved health and less stress, less bullying, reduced depression, increased feelings of gratitude, and improved sense of self esteem -- just to name a few. Honeycomb of Kindness was developed to facilitate teaching kindness to children in a way that is fun and visual for them. This also gives caregivers the opportunity to bond with the children in their lives in a way that is so meaningful.
This activity can be used however is best for the family. A token can be chosen at random, purposefully chosen for that day, chosen every day, chosen 2-3 times per week --whatever works best. The idea is that the child will get to put the completed token into the honeycomb puzzle tray, and at the end of completing 30 tokens, they will be able to see the numerous kind things they did and talk about it with their caregivers.
Included: 20 engraved kindness tokens, 10 blank tokens so children/caregivers can write their own acts of kindness on them, a puzzle tray to place the completed tokens in, a reusable muslin bag for token storage, and a double sided conversation card!
Younger Version: Ages 3-6 (and beyond, you know your child best!)
Older Version: Ages 7+ (does include some writing acts of kindness)
The conversation card that is included takes three of the acts of kindness tokens (used in both the younger child and older child set) and gives you examples of ways to guide conversation around them. If at any time you find yourself struggling to facilitate conversation around an act of kindness token, please reach out to us via our contact page or social media and we are happy to help you come up with some ideas!
This honeycomb of kindness activity was developed by the maker/owner of Wren & Mae Creations, LLC who has a Masters Degree in Social Work and worked in this capacity with children.
The size of the puzzle tray measures approximately 15 inches by 12 inches (depending on the orientation of the tray). The hexagon tiles are approximately 2 inches by 1.75 inches. Please note: Wood coloring, grain, and engraving depth may vary slightly based on natural variations in the wood.
The top part of the puzzle tray can be fragile, so please keep out of reach of younger children, unless supervised.
